Experience a TUK TUK with US !!!!

on this page we will review many things about TTNA & the tuk tuk !

About our website

TTNA does not use all the bells & whistles to provide you a fast website. Since many of our customers from other nations have VERY slow intranet, making use of the extras would only give their experience an unsatisfactory opinion. Study's show America's intranet speed is still for the most part Dial-Up. So we provide you with a fast old style version of a website.

Thank you for understanding !

TUK TUK HISTORY

The Tuk Tuks history started in Japan in the 1960’s to replace the pedi-cab also known in China to this day. The Tuk Tuk had no hold on interest there with some of them making the trip to Thailand . In Thailand the Tuk Tuk fit into a nitch that made it famous.

Bangkok with its growing requirements narrow streets with traffic congesting them the tuk tuk made its new home gaining not only the name in history for a taxi cab but a signature vehicle for the country.

It only took a few years for hundreds of different makers of the Samlor as it was first called.  These new models to hit the streets were 2 stroke engines puffing smoke into the streets and making a ratty sound. The smoke also presented a cure to the mosquito problem in the city as it fogged the air. It was soon then called the Tuk Tuk since its sound while sitting idle in traffic made a tuk tuk tuk tuk noise. The Tuk Tuk was now in Thailand to stay with everyone in the city loving it for its many uses and cures along with visitors from all over the world wanting a ride.

Over the years as people wanted to see cleaner air from vehicles and several vehicles meeting the new demands of this the tuk tuk did not enter into the clean air due to its love from the citizens. In the 90’s EPA tested the tuk tuk to see if the 2 stroke motor could be made to have less exhaust emissions. EPA presented a report to Thailand it was not possible. It took many years for Thailand to respond to this and the increasing demands from the people to make it quit smoking. The government almost removed the tuk tuk from the streets of Bangkok . In 2006 with a friendly protest from the owners of tuk tuks having a staggering three million seated, a vote to the Thailand government requested actions rather than putting them out of business and removing the countries famous vehicle from the streets asked for them to stay but making them not smoke any longer by replacing the engines with a more cleaner 4 stroke engine. The government having a passion for the tuk tuk also responded with legislation to have all tuk tuks updated or changed into the new 4 stroke engines before 2007.

This change posed a demand on the tuk tuk not only for its engine change but its safety factor.  While in 40 years of use only 3 noted accidents have been reported of it rolling over, the tuk tuk went through new engineering with the help and assistance of TTNA. The University of Lakrabang studied the tuk tuks turning and designs, Dr Chinta provided the ideas and found different motors that would provide easy change over in the motor, while TTNA provided computer and engineering suggestions for making it safer. The tuk tuk motor was moved forward placing more weight on the front wheel, the rear differential widened for better tracking, and the body lowered making it closer to the ground. All these features made the tuk tuk more stable gripping the road surface. While it is possible to tip the tuk tuk, it can only be done by over steering into a turn at to high of speed.

Testing in 2007 at the track we made just for this purpose resulted in the tuk tuk gripping the road so well that testing scared the operators in trying to make it turn over at speeds of 40 mph quickly swerving sack and forth. The tuk tuk gripped the road without tipping. A feature that everyone was looking for.

Now the tuk tuk has experienced a new sport called Ant Racing. Since it can go now high speeds, and turn on banked tracks for a racing track the tuk tuk sport in racing them has made history in Thailand .

While it is true the tuk tuk can tip over, this can only be done using little to no judgment in its operation. Careless operation or just abuse of the vehicle will allow it to tip. In one case the tuk tuk was made to tip over while in operation. This was a medium speed test conducted in USA on the paved road surface. A right turn was tested at 40 mph. the tuk tuk leaned over far enough to engage a rollover. The driver wearing a seat belt maintained control during the intentional tip with the tuk tuk sliding 60 feet. At the stop the driver got out, then tipped it back onto the wheels and finished driving to the facility. Examination of the tuk tuk resulted in damage to the outer lamp, and scratches to the body sides. As the driver used a seat belt same as the EPA test model his limbs remained in the cabin with no injury’s to the driver.

The new age tuk tuk is now safer for the roads, and cleaner for our environment.

Tuk Tuk North America

TTNA is owned by Mr. Roy Jordan, TTNA started in 2006 to bring the Tuk Tuk not only to USA but make it legal and available unit to many countries. This project started as a hobby, under USA Law the tuk tuk cannot come in quantity unless you are a manufacturer. As well as meeting all the Federal Laws. Well so much for the hobby side of the project.

After review of all the entire federal regulations, TTNA returned to Thailand to speak with makers of the Tuk Tuk. There were NO makers willing to take on the build designs and specifications needed to make them legal in the USA, another trip was then made to Thailand seeking other manufacturers, this trip proved to be successful. TTNA contracted with a maker, contract negations took over seven months having to meet federal regulations for international business, also adding addendums to the Free Trade Agreement between USA & Thailand.

Once this step was done another trip to Thailand to make a USA Compliant tuk tuk for submissions and testing. The complete redesign and build took 3 months. It was sent to USA for DOT and EPA inspections and compliance.

The EPA testing started right after the DOT approval and compliance report completed. The testing for EPA & CARB (California) took almost one year.

Upon completions and compliance EPA requested a comp test of another unit. This was for the purpose of seeing if the next unit can comply as the first.

After another test, a different Tuk Tuk preformed just as the first, with the exception of additional impressions made to government offices.

After testing completed and the papers started in the works for the actual EPA certification this drew into several months.

In April of 2009 ALL the regulations had now been done with USA's Federal Blessings. The Tuk Tuk is legal,  however- TTNA is now not offering the gas engine model.

THE THREE WHEEL HISTORY IN U.S.A.

After some research about how long the trike, three wheel, or tricycle we wanted to let you know, The 3 wheeler has been around for MANY years.

Officially since the 1880's, innovation brought us this remarkable machine out of need, and relaxation. The 3 wheel concept has been around a long time with a great history. Until the ATC, it was then that the three wheels were released into the wild receiving and undo testimony. There first arrival proved to be safe!! Indeed they were !!! BUT the ATC was not made for its American heroics. It was made to get into the outback's to see nature and work. The idea of pushing a machine to its limit and past as with any machine will have a result of un-satisfactory results. This is for any machine.

The ATC came as timid machine with fast history and a short life span due to mis-use of the machine. It is these radical uses of a 3 wheel that leave questions in your mind about the Tuk Tuk

Will the tuk tuk tip over ?

Can I go crazy in a drunken state and still use it safely ?

I must ask you, Can any machine provide you a satisfactory results in this state.

No matter what the machine is, use it wrong, show it NO respect, results will always be the same !!!!

Ask any insurance company they will tell you

There is no such thing as Accident !!!!

Every accident can be avoided !!!

MANUFACTURING

We are used to finding lower prices on many things, we do not make excuses for the price of a Tuk Tuk. The fact remains that a tuk tuk is HAND MADE, not factory stamped or mass produced. Every piece is made special for the tuk tuk to meet your needs and desires. This means that labor costs are involved for a custom item.

This unit which is not hand made starts at $40,000.00

The Tuk Tuk is hand made for every piece, while there are some jig tables and fig forms to make this a more easy process the unit is still hand made placing every piece in position before hand welding.

The end result is your very own custom Tuk Tuk. While some are of standard or typical build, still every piece has to be made. There are no machines to do this, only skilled Craftsmen. !!!!!

If you were to compare the various models that are machine made @ 40k, to our hand made at 10k you would ask or say why so inexpensive !!!!!

If you drove our unit comparing it to a 40k unit you would not take another look at any other trike than a Tuk Tuk....

Can you see this taking your jet ski to the lake, with this !!!!!

I do not think so

But with a Tuk Tuk

YES !!!!

WHY NOT 2 Jet Skis

ONLY THE TUK TUK OFFERS YOU A FUTURE !!!!!

TTNA has put together a program to offer the tuk tuk to a market never before offered. WHY !!
